Schedule:
Taal Lake Yacht Club’s core racing program is bi-monthly racing every Second and fourth Sunday of the month. The official Notice Of Race (NOR) is in the Race Documents section. We usually have between 8 and 15 Ozgeese on Second Sundays and Hobie 16s on fourth Sunday, A smaller number of other boats come out to practice too.
Wind:
The Easterly “Amihan” blows from November thru April. The Best racing is November and December, with wind really blowing in January and February. March and April usually have nice wind as well.
In May the wind is usually light and a not steady.
The “Habagat” or Westerly wind comes In June or July, and lasts through September or October.
The Club Championship is run throughout the year.
Classes:
The Hobie 16 is the primary racing class on fourth Sundays and Ozgoose on Second Sundays, but if there are other classes that have 3 or more boats, we will generally set up a start for them, and award prizes.
We also have “Practice” for other boats that want to sail, or practice starting together, if there is enough interest. There are no awards or placing for the “practice” but they have their own start and a simple course. Practice sessions frequently run on Saturdays as well as Youth Training.
Cost:
As of January 2014 it costs P500 to race a 2 person boat, and P350 for a one person boat, regardless of whether you are racing or practicing. The entry fee includes open bar for an hour on local drinks after the racing, and that is when the awards are held.
