The January 2015 Second Sunday Regatta was sponsored by Destileria Limtuaco’s newest premium rum, Very Old Captain Rum.
The Very Old Captain Regatta Races will count towards the Potato Corner 2015 Club Championship Series. The Championship series runs from January to December, and it is composed of all of Taal Lake Yacht Club’s Second Sunday Races. This is the second year that Potato Corner will be sponsoring the Potato Corner Club Championship.
First out of the blocks in the Very Old Captain Rum Second Sunday Regatta was Mike Ngu, and new crew, Philippine Sailing Association’s Boyet Balladares. The perfect start and the subsequent first to finish served as a warning to the rest of the fleet, that in spite of losing his former crew, Mike was still at the top of his game. Albert Altura however, was not far behind at the start, and went on to first overall in B-Fleet.
Also new on the scene was the first of the boats that arrived from the World Championships in Australia. Joe and Maria Hagedorn took delivery of their new Hobie 16 “Space Cadet III” just the day before, and were extremely pleased with the boats performance, coming in second place, with the boat straight out of the box.
as a “Blast from the Past” Aidan Hilker showed up with Jose Sehwani Gonzales, who just started sailing recently, but is re-proving the adage that “What matters, is time on the water”. As the club’s current “Master of disaster” title holder, Jose is burning up the learning curve, handling strong wind and chop that would discourage most sailors. Improving in every race, He is one to watch for sheer determination.
The Prize table was awesome.
Taking the first keg, a bottle and a glass, was the team of Mike Ngu and Boyet Magsanay.
In Second Place, Flanked on the left by TLYC Commodore, and Potato Corner Representative, Peter Capotosto, and on the Right by Jeff of Potato Corner, Maria Vidoeira Hagedorn, and Jose Hagedorn.
In Third place, the Triathlon group represented by Andy Aguila and Larry Ocampo, with Albert Altura, who placed First in B-Fleet.
